YT-2501 Smart Positioner with Remote Sensor

YTC have once again added to the ever increasing range of SMART valve positioners. The main feature of this positioner is the remote sensor which is fitted to the actuator with the valve positioner located away from excessive heat or vibration. Communication between the sensor and positioner is via a communications cable which can be ordered to suit various distances. The sensor can also be located in confined areas, pits or “difficult to access locations”. With the positioner located in a suitably safe area all calibration, setup and diagnostics can be achieved, thus removing the need for access permits, or exposure to hazards or heights.
The valve positioner also exhibits features such as Auto Calibration, LCD display, PD Control, Limit Switches, HART Communication, Fail freeze and Fail Safe function. Air consumption at steady state is near zero which dramatically reduces operating costs compared to constant bleed valve positioners.
The YT-2501 can be easily adapted to suit both rotary and linear applications.

Acrodyne achieves ISO9000

Acrodyne has successfully completed the certification process for ISO9000. SAI Global completed their audit in early September and granted certification after their final review. Acrodyne’s reasoning for going down the path of quality assurance certification is to help in continually improving the processes critical in providing exception customer service levels to existing and future customers. The ISO9000 approach provides both a good structure to work within, tools for continuous improvement and methods for evaluation and monitoring. As part of this ongoing process, all at Acrodyne welcome comments from customers which will help us to improve our service levels to you. Acrodyne now has a base in NSW

Acrodyne is again on the move, this time with the formation of Acrodyne NSW. With a stronger focus in NSW Acrodyne can better serve its distributor and reseller network as well as providing expert consultation and back up service to the end user market.

Stephen McCormack heads up the Acrodyne NSW operation responsible for service and sales, and brings to Acrodyne vast industry experience. Stephen completed an apprenticeship with BHP as an electrical/instrument fitter followed by construction work, 6 years as an electrical/instrument service technician, and 7 years doing electrical engineering and project management.

Stephen McCormack joined us in July as our new External and Internal Service Technician based and servicing NSW. Stephen is 47 years of age. Stephen lives with his partner Tracey, 3 daughters and 1 son in Barrack Heights, 2 hours South of Sydney in the Illawarra region. Stephen has over 20 years experience working in heavy industry process control and instrumentation. In his down time enjoys playing soccer and watching sport.

Acrodyne have been involved in the supply of Harmonic Drive Products for over twenty years, and due to ever increasing demand Acrodyne is pleased to announce it’s new division “PRECISION MOTION CONTROL”. This encompasses industries such as mechatronics, robotics, machine tools, medical research and communications industries which is just to name a few.

It is Acrodyne’s aim to broaden the current range of products offered and have invested in a training program delivered by Harmonic Drive Systems located in Japan, attended by Andrew Hartley, a member of our External Sales and Jon Bayly from Internal Sales in late September.

This initiative will deliver some exciting and new challenges for both Acrodyne and Harmonic Drive Systems.

Tribute to Graham Fergus

Graham Robert Fergus passed away at his home on June 17th 2009 at the age of 69. Graham leaves a legacy of over 30 year’s association with (amongst other disciplines) Limitorque valve actuators. Graham was the first employee of Pryde Measurement in the mid 1960’s. Pryde Measurement was started by George Pryde Patterson, (Graham’s mentor )in one room and half a room for a store at 62 Wellington Parade East Melbourne. Control Engineering (Aust) Pty Ltd was formed in 1963, for which Graham became manager and then CEO and part owner till his retirement. Control Engineering initially represented Limitorque products in Victoria only. Late in the 1960’s Limitorque products were used extensively for the developing Bass Strait oil fields, during this time the Limitorque agency was transferred from Underhill Day of Brisbane to Control Engineering; Limitorque enjoyed continued growth under the leadership of Graham.
Graham had the ability to extract the very best from people he employed; testament to this can be seen in the people who have been successful in all types of endeavour. Today the Limitorque name continues on through Acrodyne, we are proud to be part of a rich heritage spanning nearly 50 years, with almost all of those Limitorque actuators Graham installed all those years ago still running strong.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to Graham’s wife Jan, daughter Michelle, son Scott and their families, he will be sadly missed.

Noah’s New Spring Return Series

The Noah quarter turn electric actuators are now available with the spring return option for torque ratings up-to 200 Nm and power supply voltages of 110/240 V AC 1 Ph, 440 V AC 3 Ph & 24 VDC. This option utilises a totally enclosed spiral spring connected in series with the actuator out-put drive.
In the power on mode the motor drives the out-put shaft simultaneously compressing the spring. An electro-magnetic brake locks the out-put shaft preventing the spring from releasing it’s energy. On loss of power or in the ESD mode, the brake is released and the spring drives the actuator to a fail-safe position. Spring travel time is 2 secs.
The addition of the spring return option to the Noah range makes it a very reliable, economically priced and versatile actuator for on off & position control for quarter turn valves & dampers.

YTC have just released a new and incredibly compact YT2700 Electro-pneumatic “Fail Freeze” positioner. “Fail Freeze” positioners are becoming an ever increasing preference due to the characteristic of holding last position in the event of supply air or signal failure.

The YT2700 exhibits extremely low air consumption thus reducing ongoing operating costs.Housed in an IP67 aluminium diecast polyester coated enclosure it features an easy to read LCD display. In addition to this it has the SMART features you would expect such as PD control , 4-20Ma feedback , Auto Calibration and HART protocol. The YT2700 comes in both Rotary and Linear which adapts well to smaller size control valves.

Amalga - Crushing the competition

Here is an example of a crush test done on one of our 16 inch inside diameter x .250 inch wall fiberglass/epoxy tubes.

· First picture shows a deflection of 3 inches with the force of 900 lbs.

· Second picture shows a deflection of 7 inches with the force of 1600 lbs.

· Third picture shows a deflection of 11 inches with the force of 2300 lbs.

Tube failed at 2400 lbs of compressive force.

ACI designs and engineers fiberglass/epoxy cores as a light weight, corrosion resistant and lower cost direct replacement for steel, aluminum and brass.

Amalga barrel cores are also used as a direct replacement for cardboard cores because of its high strength, tight tolerances, non contamination to product, non conductive and longer re-usable life cycle.

Amalga fiberglass/epoxy tubing is also dent and shatter resistant.

Acrodyne Upgrades ERP Software

Acrodyne have finished a major upgrade to their ERP software which will see the company through a major growth period over the next 5-10 years. The SAP Business One software was chosen from many of the available packages on the market primarily due to its ability to offer CRM, Service, Manufacturing, Accounting and rich reporting features in a fully integrated package.

Inecom, with their head office situated in Mount Waverley, Victoria installed the software and will continue to ongoing support requirements with productivity enhancements and modifications as the needs arise.

Joanne Lai, Acrodyne’s Administrative Services Manager, managed the implementation and the changeover from the companies previous accounting software, a huge task, but one that was managed impecably from a detail and timing perspective.

Acrodyne Visits Valve World

Hugh Peters, product manager for Acrodyne, has just returned from the Valve World exhibition in Maastricht, The Netherlands. Hugh met with many of our suppliers who were exhibiting at the show as well as speaking with competitors and other associated industry personalities. The benefit Hugh is now able to pass onto our customers is a more detailed knowledge of Actuation and Control solutions that Acrodyne are able to offer in the Australian and New Zealand markets.
